The Work

In Process

With Danny Gordon or Terra Mackintosh

Next Session Dates TBD

$300 per 4 week session

Writers must submit work to be considered for this class. Please click below to submit your script for consideration.

Once selected, registration will open for a limited number of actors depending on the needs of the material.

This class is structured as a month-long workshop for a selected script, designed as a tool for writers who are looking for support in developing their play or screenplay, as well as actors who are interested in a scene study class focused on new material. Terra or Danny will facilitate as the director.

The final class will culminate in an informal, invited presentation of selections from the script. The writer will introduce their material, share what stage of development it’s in, and guide the audience through the scenes as the actors perform.

To the writer:

Each week, you will select scenes or sections of your script to bring to class. We will dive into these pages through table work and getting scenes up on their feet. You will gain new insights into your piece through conversations with the actors as well as watching the director work with actors on your material. You will leave class each week with notes to be applied and goals to set for the following week.

You can use the three weeks however best serves your project — working through your script as a whole, focussing on one specific section of your script, working and rewriting a single scene, or bringing in new and revised material each week. It’s up to you!

To the actor:

As with all classes at The Artist’s Space, this class will be structured as a rehearsal setting. Through table work and scene study, you will work in collaboration with the writer to develop your character(s). You will receive pages to prepare each week, coming in memorized and ready to work. Depending on the needs of the material, you may play different characters each class - a unique opportunity to expand your range and deepen your understanding of the material.

In Process is for actors looking to build relationships with writers, and for those interested in learning tools to help them become more effective collaborators.
